The Contessamat SE features a 45/2.8 Pantar, lens with Prontormatic shutter capable of speeds 30-125/sec. Originally available from 1963-65, this mid-level model of a high end Zeiss camera with automatic exposure setting as well as manual operation with use of the built in light meter.
Metering is done by viewing the camera from above and noting the position of the needle in the exposure meter window and setting the shutter speed and aperture manually if not in Automatic mode. In Auto setting the camera determines aperture and shutter speed based on the reading from the exposure meter using a selenium cell which needs no battery to operate. Exposure meter is tested and accurate within a few hundred footcandles.
Camera is in near mint condition and comes with original leather case in very good condition with soft and very usable strap. Case has original owner's information in masking tape as pictured. We have chosen to leave this in case it's next owner would like to have it as found. Camera has removable Walz 27mm UV filter mounted to protect the lens.

Due to the nature of vintage items being used, we cannot guarantee that any item will be in perfect working condition. Oftentimes vintage items need a bit more creativity to operate than a brand new item and can have unique quirks like a stiff button, or wiggly latch. We do our best to thoroughly test and describe the condition of every item we sell.
Returns will be handled on a case by case basis.
